"Eken" (The Oak"), schoolyard in Hällevadsholms , 2016. Artist: Lukas Arons.
After an absence of almost four years, the oak tree from the schoolyard has returned. The more than 350-year-old tree stood in the way of the school's expansion but has been brought back as a work of art.
Artist Lukas Arons has transformed the tree into a spectacular sculpture that has been placed about 50 metres south of its original location. The tree rests in an upside-down position on three colossal tree trunk-shaped granite blocks, with the roots forming a crown at the top.
The sculpture weighs about 25 tonnes. When the oak tree was taken out of the ground it weighed 18 tonnes - just the root and the sand scraped off it weighed 4 tonnes!
The stone blocks in the artwork are made of three different types of stone, with three different colours: black, grey and red. These colours are a symbol of cohesion between all kinds of groups, schools, communities, individuals, cultures and so on, and a symbol that differences enrich and provide a solid foundation for development.
